Board Consultant
Eleanor Meyer
Eleanor has been directly involved with TMHU since its inception in 2014. A nurse by trade and devoted wife and mother for over 22 years, Eleanor joined TMHU as a sponsor hoping to play a small part in giving these once abandoned children a happy, bright and hope-filled future. She immediately found that her small footprint had a much bigger impact than she ever imagined possible.
"The unique grass-roots nature of this organization makes deeply meaningful and personal relationships with our kids and mentors possible. They have changed our lives as much as we have changed theirs." Eleanor joined the board in 2016 after her first trip to Uganda. She and her daughter Helen have been to Uganda together 6 times since 2016 and they don't plan on stopping any time soon. Eleanor lives in Winston-Salem, NC with her husband Joe. Junior Board President
Helen Meyer
Helen has been involved with the TMHU Family since 2016, when she took her first of five trips to Uganda alongside her mother, Eleanor. Beginning at age 12, she has had the honor of growing up alongside this special group of children, furthering her passions for service and working with children.
Helen is studying biology at the UNC Chapel Hill, with aspirations of attending medical school. Her involvement with TMHU has undoubtedly introduced her to the value and importance of a service-orientation, which she hopes to further within the medical field.
Upon returning from the 2023 TMHU trip summer after her freshman year at UNC, Helen had a new perspective on how fortunate she was to receive a college education. Wanting nothing less for the TMHU Children, she founded our Higher Education Initiative to start fundraising and expand TMHU’s mission to include a college education. With help from Kate Dennen, MB Myers, and the entire TMHU team, the project has made immense progress and opened exciting doors for TMHU.

TMHU Mentor
Fred Nkoba
My name is Fred Nkoba. I currently serve as a mentor to our TMHU kids. I also tend to the TMHU Operations here in Uganda.

Originally, I am from one of the most notorious slums in Kampala. My life was forever changed when I became a sponsored child and was able to spend time in the United States with the African Boys Choir. When I returned to Uganda I received an excellent education at Makerere University where I played soccer.

I began a life long mission of giving back and volunteered at a local orphanage. I met Bryan when he and his wife traveled to Uganda to adopt their daughter. When the children of the orphanage were abandoned I reached out to Bryan for help.

I'm so proud of the progress our children have made and the leaders they have become. I look forward to continuing to work with them as they embark on their newest endeavor - education at the University or trade school.

TMHU Mentor
Ivan Mwambusa
I'm a formerly sponsored child, through Compassion International! My heart has always bled for the young souls especially those that are in need. I personally know how it feels to stay on an empty stomach for days, putting on two pairs of clothes for a month without washing them. I know what it means to see others feeling love from their parents, and you don't see any shoulder to cry on.
And finally you get someone to stand with you all that irrespective of stature! So my passion rose from the grassroots of poverty and hope being built inside of me!
I was captured by the generosity and heartfelt kindness of the THMU family and the love!! So I really loved to join this prestigious organization to help fulfil their mission and objectives!
