Our Story

Take My Hand Uganda (TMHU) is a registered 501(c)(3)non-profit organization based in Winston-Salem, NC.

TMHU was founded in 2014 when God led the Klinchuch Family from Winston Salem to Uganda to adopt their daughter. Their time spent at her orphanage impacted and changed their lives forever. While at the orphanage, they connected with a dedicated Ugandan volunteer named Fred and a missionary from Maryland, named Julie. Having been a sponsored child himself, Fred dedicates his life to serving others. He was vital in helping navigate life in Uganda while traversing the tumultuous adoption process. Bridgette and Bryan developed a special bond and trusting friendship with Fred.

Shortly after returning home to the US with their daughter, the orphanage abruptly closed leaving over 40children completely abandoned. Feeling called to help, Fred reached out to Brian and Julie. They set a goal to provide a stable place to stay and enough food to feed them for a couple of months. They were blessed to meet a Ugandan Pastor and his wife who were willing to take all 40 children into their 15 foot round mud and dung hut.

They worked relentlessly to place as many children as possible in stable programs and for the remaining 28, the TMHU Sponsorship Program was born. In 2015, a generous donation from the Alteryx Company afforded them the opportunity to add a stable and strong education through high school.

For 10 years dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to sustain this unique organization. TMHU is a grass roots, sponsor-driven, volunteer-run program specifically for this group of 28 children. Witnessing their physical, emotional and academic growth has inspired us to expand our program beyond the high school years. Our revised goal is to include a University or trade school degree through our Higher Education Initiative.

We believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and we are committed to helping them do so. By providing them with the tools and resources they need to thrive, we empower them to define their own future and change the world.
